From Gibraltar and Tarifa (the most southerly point of Europe) the Costa de la Luz, or the Coast of Light, runs westwards to Cádiz and beyond to Portugal.
This Atlantic shoreline is preferred by the Spanish themselves, but the fabulous wide sandy beaches mean it is never crowded - there is sand to spare.
Chiclana de la Frontera, in the Andalusian province of Cádiz, is situated to the south of the Gaditanian Bay, its coast is washed by the Atlantic Ocean.
Chiclana has good access to 3 main international airports.
Chiclana is a half hour drive from Jerez airport, and a hour and a half from the one in Seville or Gibraltar and about three hours from Malaga airport.
The golf courses at San Roque, Sotogrande, Jerez and Benalup are readily accessed via the excellent motorway system in this area.
There is also an excellent motorway network linking the northern ports of Spain. The ports of Santander and Bilbao are both approximately 900 miles, a journey of 12 - 14 hours by car, linking to Plymouth and Portsmouth in the UK.
From the UK and Northern Europe the flight is apprxiamtaley two and a half hours to Southern Spain. The table below gives an indication of how long it takes to get to Casa De Alhambra from the airport. All times are approximate as many factors can affect the journey such as traffic, whether you use the motorway or other roads and whether you decide to break your journey.
Airport (Click for airport information) | Journey Time (Approximate) | Notes | Jerez | 40 minutes | Jerez airport is the nearest airport. The airport is small and relatively quick to pass through | Gibraltar | 80 minutes | Car hire collection is usually a short walk over the border in La Linea | Seville | 90 minutes | The quickest journey is via the Toll motorway | Malaga | 160 minutes | The motorway from Malaga is quick and for much of the journey under used. There is a toll charge on the Malaga - Marbella/Estepona section | Faro | 300 minutes | To travel from Faro you need to take the motorway to Seville and then on towards Cadiz |
